Start with a complete register and integration inventory: sales terminals, receipt printers, cash drawers, scanners, label printers, network connections, payment devices, and METRC credentials. Assign an owner to each dependency and run the same test plan on every register. A successful login on one device does not prove that the full store can open, sell, return, and close correctly.

Configure age verification, purchase limits, tax treatment, product status, discounts, and return permissions before loading live inventory. Test flower, concentrates, edibles, a weighed item, a discount, a return, and a blocked package. Confirm that each transaction produces the expected receipt, inventory movement, tax result, and state-tracking event.

Clean the inventory before cutover. Compare package identifiers, product names, units, cost, on-hand quantity, test status, and store location across the old system, physical count, and METRC. Resolve negative quantities, duplicate products, inactive packages, and unexplained adjustments before entering an opening balance. Moving an unresolved discrepancy into a new POS makes the first reconciliation unreliable.

Define opening, closing, and outage procedures in writing. Employees need to know who approves a manual adjustment, what evidence to capture during an internet interruption, and when a blocked transaction must be escalated. At close, a manager should compare sales, payments, discounts, voids, returns, taxes, and inventory changes, then clear unsynced events before the next shift.
